Culligan Quality Standards
We go above and beyond to make our products safe and healthy
for our customers.
Bottled Water Quality
Culligan is a member of the CBWA (Canadian Bottled Water Association) and our bottled water meets or exceeds all applicable federal and provincial regulations for drinking water. Bottled water is regulated as a food product under the federal Food and Drugs Act. Bottled water companies must adhere to quality standards, good manufacturing practices and labeling requirements. The federal government inspectors of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency regularly audit the operations of all bottled water companies to ensure compliance. The province also regulates bottled water, especially approving sources of water.
CBWA bottlers are subject to a third level of regulation involving third-party inspections, water testing and analysis, and adherence to the CBWA model code. Bottlers must pass an annual, unannounced plant inspection administered by an independent, internationally recognized organization. They must also pass an annual water analysis administered by an independent government certified laboratory and regularly conduct microbial testing by qualified personnel.
Culligan Water Sources
Dedicated and sanitized stainless steel tanker trucks transport our spring water. Spring water is passed through a set of absolute filters and ozonated.
Our Premium Bottled Water goes through a multi-barrier approach. We begin with Brockville treated, municipal water followed by this 11 steps process:
To remove unwanted tastes, odours and virtually all chemicals
1. Filtered through parallel activated carbon filters to remove chlorine from the municipal feed water
2. Softened to remove calcium, magnesium and other elements that can cause scaling
To remove sediment and particulates
3. Filtered through a 5 micron polypropylene pre-filter
To remove any harmful microbial contaminants
4. Water passes through an ultra violet sterilizer
To remove 99% of dissolved salts, and organic contaminants as well as provide a barrier against bacteria
5. Water passes through a Reverse Osmosis System to primarily remove the total dissolved solids (TDS)
6. An additional ultra violet sterilizer
The bottling process
7. Water is accumulated in storage tanks
8. Coming out of the storage tanks, the water is ozonated. Ozone is a powerful, non-chemical disinfectant with no by-products
9. Bottle washer/bottle sterilizer/ bottle filler/bottle capper
10. Caps are date coded
11. Loaded onto delivery trucks
Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System
It’s a security system for your water. Reverse osmosis reduces contaminants as small as an atom producing delicious drinking water!
Ozone vs. Chlorine
Culligan uses ozone instead of chlorine in the final step of production. Ozonation leaves no residual and does not cause a taste or odor problem. Ozone is Oxygen (O3 to be exact) that is bubbled through the water just before it goes into a clean, sanitized bottle. Within a few hours after the bottle has been filled and capped, the ozone dissipates or converts back to the same form of oxygen we breathe (O2).
